Where to Stay in Tavira Portugal: My Top Areas to Stay in 2027

Tavira, a small town in the Algarve, close to better-known places such as Lagos, Portimão and Albufeira, is definitely one of my favorite traditional Portuguese places. It still feels like a hidden gem, as I haven’t heard many travelers (except for Portuguese people) talk about how lovely this place is.

I’ve visited Tavira two years in a row now, and I honestly have so many reasons to keep coming back. Instead of huge resort beaches, the town is surrounded by the beautiful Ria Formosa, which gives the whole area a much more peaceful and authentic feel.

Tavira feels quieter and more laid-back than other cities in the Algarve and that’s one of the reasons why I love this place so much. Let’s quickly dive into the options on where to stay in Tavira Portugal.

This traditional Portuguese town is full of history, and the perfect place to visit if you’re into great food, charming authentic streets, and quieter beach days rather than the nightlife and crowds of the Algarve’s busier cities.

What is the Best Area to Stay in Tavira? My Honest Answer

If you’d like to get a quick answer on the question ‘what’s the best area to stay in Tavira?’, I’d say choose an accommodation in Tavira city center, especially if it’s your first time visiting and if you’re planning to stay only a couple of days. Do you like having dinner in the lively heart of Tavira, but prefer waking up somewhere a little quieter and more local? Then Santa Luzia might be exactly what you’re looking for. It’s close enough to enjoy the town, but village-like enough to slow down.
